The ‘Supreme Court Judges (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2014’ providing for increase of their remuneration by 50 percent as ‘special allowance’, has been passed in the parliament on Monday.
The bill was passed amending the existing Supreme Court Judges (remuneration and privileges) Ordinance-1978.
Law Minister Anisul Haq moved the bill, which was passed by voice vote in the House.
It said that the government has decided to increase the remuneration of the judges by 50 percent of their respective remuneration as ‘special allowance’.
On March 18, the government tabled in parliament a bill proposing 50% additional allowances for the Chief Justice and judges of the High Court and Appellate Divisions of the Supreme Court.
