A Chittagong court has exempted ABM Mohiuddin, the former mayor of Chittagong, from a case filed by the Natinal Board of Revenue (NBR) for hiding information in his wealth statement.
Judge SM Ataur Rahman of Chittagong’s Divisional Special Tribunal passed the order on Monday morning.
In 2007, Additional Assistant Commissioner of NBR Ziaul Hoque lodged a case against Mohiuddin for evading Tk27.58 lakh tax and hiding information of about Tk1.13 crore in his wealth statement.
The High Court later stayed the case after nine prosecution witnesses had already testified before the trial court.
On November 27, 2013, the High Court withdrew the stay order and ordered the lower court to resume the trial, and ordered Mohiuddin to surrender before the trial court.
On January 28, the lower court granted him bail after he had surrendered before it following an arrest warrant issued against him.
