Chief Justice M Mozammel Hossain has said the judges are constitutionally independent, but not above the law.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a function to award certificates to lawyers enrolled in Bar Council in 2009 at Institute of Diploma Engineers in the city on Saturday, reports BSS.
“Lawyers are the officers of the court and they will have to behave well inside and outside the court,” he said.
The chief justice told the lawyers that the constitution is the country's highest law. He advised all to have good knowledge of the constitution.
The responsibility of the lawyers is to assist the justice-seekers and the court and keep the trials and laws above controversies, Mozammel said.
He suggested the lawyers to go for more studies and maintain values, honesty, devotion, patience, modesty and tolerance in their work.
