The High Court yesterday asked the director general of Health Directorate to appear in person before it on April 24 to explain whether it implemented a previous order on improving examination of rape victims.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order.
On April 16 last year, a High Court bench on its own motion ordered the DG health to appoint female doctors and nurses in all government hospitals to examine rape victims.
The court issued the rule responding to a newspaper report stating that male doctors are examining the raped women in the hospitals.
“The court asked the DG to explain by appearing in person why he did not submit the reply of the rule,” Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy told reporters.
