Update : 25 Mar 2014, 08:09 PM

Seven people, including an OC and two SIs, were accused in a petition case filed on charge of having connection with the murder of Shah Alam Mollah alias Shagar, a reporter of weekly magazine Oporadh Domon, this month.

The accused policemen are Uttara West police station OC Rafiqul Islam and its sub-inspectors Md Mamun and Md Harunur Rashid while the rest four are Riaz Rahman, Sultan Mahmud, MAB Sujan and Marjina Begum.

The journalist’s elder brother Md Khalek Mollah filed the case with the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman who fixed April 2 for taking cognizance of the case after scrutinising another case earlier filed by police in the incident.

According to the case statement, Shah Alam Shagar died after falling off the rooftop of the Uttara West police station building on March 4 and SI Harun filed a case accusing four people who are now behind bars.

The statement added that police called on Shagar at the police station to attend arbitration on the day, and his family members spotted several injury marks on his body.

However, Shagar’s wife claimed her husband had been killed in police torture which was denied by the police.
