Cantonment in the offing in Chapainawabganj

An initiative for establishing a cantonment at Jhilim area under Chapai Nawabganj district has been adopted by Bangladesh Army in association with local district administration to improve the service’s facilities of the district and control the militant activities in the area.

A view exchange meeting was held in the Chapai Nawabganj district circuit house auditorium yesterday chaired by Sarder Sarafat Ali, deputy commissioner of Chapai Nawabganj while Major General Abdullahel Baki, GOC of 11 infantry division of Bogra tabled a presentation in this regard.

Local MP Abdul Wadud, Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed and senior officials and politicians gave their opinion attending the meeting.

Major General Abdullahel Baki said the government had taken a plan to establish a warrant officer’s academy in Chapainawabganj. It would be an initial step towards establishing a full-fledged cantonment in this area.

Several offices including modern training institutes, medical college and combined military hospital and cant-public school and college would be established, if the initiative of establishing the cantonment achieves its goal.

DC Sarafat Ali told the Dhaka Tribune that the scheme of establishing the cantonment is still in the primary stage. The area will be developed if the proposal comes true. He said the primary location of establishing the cantonment is Babu Dyeing area of the district, where there are some khas lands, while some private land would have to be acquired if the scheme is approved.
