Tazreen chairman’s bail cancelled

A Dhaka court has cancelled the bail granted to Tazreen Fashions Chairman Mahmuda Akhter Mita and ordered her to appear before the lower court within 15 days.

Dhaka District and Session Judge Abdul Mozeed passed the order regarding the prosecution petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Mita on Thursday morning.

The court also show caused Dhaka Cheif Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain and Senior Judicial Magistrate Tazul Islam for their procedural mistake in the order of sending Tazreen Fashions Managing Director Delwar Hossain and his wife Mahmuda Akter Mita to jail when they surrendered before the court on February 9.

On February 9, a Dhaka court sent Delwar Hossain and his wife Mahmuda Akter Mita to jail, rejecting their bail plea.

The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tazul Islam passed the order in the afternoon.

On the same day, Delwar Hossain and his wife had surrendered before the Dhaka court seeking bail in a case over their factory fire that killed more than 110 workers.

On February 11, Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain rejected the bail petition of Tazreen Managing Director Delwar Hossain but gave his wife Mahmuda one month’s conditional bail.

On February 12, public prosecutor Khondoker Abdul Mannan filed a petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Mita.

The state counsel mentioned in the petition that the accused had been absconding for a long time and that she was not obedient to the court.

The accused could threaten the victims’ families and the prosecution witness, the petition says.
