Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) Director and Registrar Shahidul Islam sought unconditional apology from the High Court yesterday conceding the fact that the hospital’s ward boy had conducted an operation.
They also told the court that they had taken measures against the person who had been responsible for the incident and adopted preventive actions so that such unwarranted incidents would not happen in future.
Earlier, on February 18, following a writ petition of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, the bench summoned the director and the registrar of RMCH to appear before the court on March 5 to explain on the allegation of conducting operations by hospital’s ward boys.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain yesterday exonerated them from personal appearance in the court following pleas of them and fixed April 3 for giving further order on the writ petition.
On February 18, it also ordered the health secretary to form a committee in a week to probe the incident and submit a compliance report by four weeks.
The court also ordered the health secretary and the director general of the health department to issue directives to the chiefs of all hospitals of the country to monitor the entire surgical system and to ensure the conduct of operations by surgeons.
