The government has revised the fees for acquiring licence of privately-owned televisions.
According to regulations, having a licence is mandatory to own a television. The government has introduced a one-time facility for easing out the hassle regarding renewal of these licences.
An information ministry handout said on Thursday that licence fee for black-and-white televisions would be Tk600, Tk1,500 for up to 21 inch colour televisions, and Tk1,800 for those over 21 inches.
For LCD or LED televisions up to 21 inch, an individual will have to pay Tk1,800 and for those up to 36 inch it will be Tk2,400.
Licence fee for those exceeding this limit will cost Tk3,000.
Users yet to obtain licence are being allowed a “special facility” under which they need to submit licence fee (and 15% VAT) and receipt of the purchase to any branch of state-owned Janata Bank Limited.
