Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the people of Sylhet and all authorities concerned to give special attention in maintaining a peaceful environment during the upcoming T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
“I urge the people of Sylhet to give their special attention so that a peaceful environment prevails during the T20 World Cup matches in Sylhet,” the premier said while addressing a civil gathering after inaugurating the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in the district town yesterday.
“We do not want any chaos or clash. I would like to ask all concerned to make sure that no such incident or situation takes place that could jeopardise the T20 World Cup here,” she added.
Hasina also said apart from the role of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, law enforcement agencies and the administration, cooperation and support from locals was vital for successfully hosting the upcoming tournament in Sylhet.
Expressing her gratitude to the people of Sylhet for voting for the Awami League at the parliamentary polls, she said the stadium was a gift from her to the residents of the district town.
Organised by Sylhet Divisional Sports Association, the function was also addressed by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder and Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP.
