A minor girl was burnt alive when her house caught fire in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Simu Akhtar, 8, daughter of Sandesh Farazi, resident of Madhya Bahadurpur village in Islampur upazila.
Islampur fire service and civil defence sources said the fire had originated from an oven inside the victims house at about 10:15pm and shortly spread across the adjacent area engulfing 11 houses belonged to some nine villagers.
Simu was burnt alive as she got trapped in their room after the fire broke out.
Hearing the news of fire, a unit of Islampur fire service rushed to the spot and put out the blaze around 1am.
Then, the firefighter recovered the charged body of the girl.
Sources said the victim’s mother went to a neighbouring house to watch television locking her inside a room where she was sleeping.
The loss in the fire primarily estimated around Tk400,000, sources added.
