A Dhaka court yesterday placed Saidur Rahman Shahid alias Shahid Commissioner on a four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Kunda union Chairman Atikullah Chowdhury of Keranigonj.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Toybul Hassan passed the order yesterday.
On February 16, Keraniganj police station Sub-Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Afzal Hossain prayed for a 10-day police remand of the accused before the court.
Meanwhile, Defense Lawyer Shahadat Hossain filed a bail petition and pleaded for the rejection of the remand.
The SI said in the remand prayer, “Shahid Commissioner’s involvement was found with Atikul Chowdhury’s murder after investigating the case.” So he needs to quiz him on remand and find out the clue of the murder.
Saidur Rahman Chowdhury, son of Atikullah Chowdhury, had filed a murder case with Keraniganj police station regarding the killing on December 12 last year against unknown accused. At least seven suspects have been arrested so far in this murder case, said the general registration section the court.
On February 4, Rapid Action Battalion personnel arrested Shahid Commissioner who had been awarded with death penalty for a murder from his Gandaria residence around 3am.
A Dhaka court earlier granted a five-day remand on Shahid Commissioner in connection with an arms case.
The elite force members also seized three foreign-made pistols, three magazines and 62 rounds of ammunition from his possession.
Later, RAB inspector filed an arms case against Shahid with Gandaria police station.
