HC summons IO of Sagar-Runi murder case

Update : 18 Feb 2014, 07:35 PM

The High Court yesterday ordered the investigation officer of Sagar-Runi murder case to appear and inform it about the developments on March 5.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah asked the RAB chief to make sure the IO appears.

The court passed the order during a hearing on the bail pleas of Bakul Miah, Rafiqul Islam and Kamrul – three detained suspects in the case.

A police source confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that Zafar Ullah, an assistant superintendent of police, is the IO.

Lawyer for the three suspects SM Masud Hossain told the court that his clients could be released on bail as the charge sheet for the case had not yet been pressed even after two years of the murder.

They were shown as arrested in the case after being arrested in the case of killing a doctor in the city on September 3, 2012.

The court then said they would give an order on the bail pleas after knowing about the progress in the investigation process.

The couple was found dead at their rented house in the capital’s West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012.

Following the murder, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police started investigation in a case filed over the incident. Later the case was shifted to the DB, but the High Court in an order shifted the case to RAB for investigation as the DB had expressed its inability to resolve the case.
