Body to probe correction centre’s misconduct

The High Court formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the “mismanagement” the Gazipur Juvenile Correctional Centreon on Thursday.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain formed the probe body on the basis of a report published in a national Bangla daily in the afternoon.

SC Lawyer Asaduzzaman Siddiqui placed the report with the HC bench.

According to the report, some 20 juveniles from the correction centre have cut themselves using blades to protest the autority's “mismanagement.”

After noticing the report, the court formed the probe committee and asked it to submit a prove report on the mismanagement of the correction centre authorities within seven working days.

The committee includes the Department of Social Services director general, Gazipur district deputy commissioner and superintendent of Gazipur police.

Meanwhile, the court issued a ruling asking why the mismanagement of the authority should not be declared illegal, requiring a response within two weeks.

Secretary for Social Welfare, DG of Social Welfare Department, IGP, Gazipur SP, Gazipur DC, Gazipur Juvenile Correctional Centre superintendent and provision officer were made the defendants of the ruling.

Deputy Attorney General Biswojit Roy confirmed about the HC ruling to the Dhaka Tribune.w
