A Manikganj court has fixed February 13 for delivering verdict in the case of violating a female garment worker on a running bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
The Manikganj session judge Mostafa Dewan fixed the date after completing hearing the argument of both the defense and the prosecution.
In the hearing, victim’s lawyer public prosecutor Abdus Salam narrated the case statement and sought highest punishment of the accused.
Defense lawyer Mohiuddin Ahmed and Monwara Begun were present during the argument.
The two accused of the case bus driver Dipu Miah, 30, and his helper Kashem Miah, 27, are now in jail.
The PP Abdus Salam and Tawhida Khandaker said, total 14 witnesses had given deposition in the case.
On January 24 in last year, the 19-year-old garment worker was raped on the bus in the afternoon.
The bus driver Dipu first tried to violate her while his assistance Kashem raped her.
Police rescued the victim in Manikganj Central Bus Terminal that evening.
Doctors examined her at Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Later, the victim filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act accusing the driver and the helper.
Police arrested Dipu in Manikganj Bus Stand that evening and Kashem in Nabinagar of Ashulia at night.
Next day they gave confessional statement under the section 164 before a Manikganj court.
