3 Inqilab journos sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Friday sent the three detained journalists of the Bangla daily Inqilab to jail.

The court also fixed Monday for hearing the remand and bail petitions of the arrested.

Metropolitan Magistrate Yunus Ali Khan passed the order following a time plea filed by defence lawyer Syed Ahmed Gazi.

The arrested journalists are Ahmmed Atiq, chief reporter of Inqilab, Rabiulla Ulla Robi, a news editor and Rafiq Mohammad, deputy chief reporter.

They have been shown arrested under Information and Communication Technology Act (ICT) 2006.

Firoz Ali, investigation officer of the case and Wari police station sub-inspector, sought a five-day remand for Ahmmed Atiq.

Meanwhile, Defence lawyer Syed Ahmed Gazi appealed the court to hear the petition on Monday as no power of attorney was appointed.

Then the court granted the plea and fixed Monday for hearing the remand and bail pleas. 

Detectives on Thursday arrested Ahmmed Atiq, chief reporter of Inqilab, Rabiulla Ulla Robi, a news editor and Rafiq Mohammad, its deputy chief reporter.

A case was filed against publisher, editor, chief news editor and a reporter under the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006 with Wari police.

Reporter Atiq was arrested for the making of the news that claims the presence of Indian army personnel in Bangladesh territory while Robi and Rafiq for helping in the making, said police.
