Pro-BNP lawyers rebut consensus

Update : 01 Jan 2014, 08:17 AM

Pro-BNP lawyers rebutted statements of consensus with their colleagues supporting Awami League to keep Supreme Court clear from any gathering.

The rebuttal was made by Supreme Court Bar Association President AJ Mohammad Ali in a press conference at Bar association on Wednesday.

However, he admitted that a meeting in this regard was held on Tuesday. But, he claimed that the confidential condition of the meeting was breached.

“Reports regarding a consensus between pro-Awami League and BNP lawyers reaching a consensus is misleading,” he said in the briefing.

“No consensus regarding implementation of the peaceful opposition programme has been made in yesterday's (Tuesday) meeting.”

“The lawyers who are engaged in the progress of democracy are with the movement and will be with the movement,” he asserted.

“Yesterday's meeting did not take place on the basis of representatives. That is why there is no scope for a consensus under such circumstances.”

“Pro-Awami League lawyers and the Attorney General spread confusion. The condition of the meeting was to keep its content confidential.”

In wake of unprecedented violence inside Supreme Court premises, lawyers said to have reached a consensus to keep the court premises clear of gatherings.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam endorsed the information to reporters on Tuesday.
