A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed 42 arrestees including the 37 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals, who were arrested earlier, on a two-day remand for their involvement with an Illegal VoIP business.
The court placed another arrestee, Mozammel Hosaain Rashed, on a one-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order on Tuesday as the investigative officer placed them before his court with a seven-day remand plea.
Earlier on Sunday, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested 37 foreigners along with two Bangladeshi nationals with a large quantity of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment worth Tk10 crore from a house in the capital’s Uttara.
Rab arrested the 39, including 5 Chinese and 32 Taiwanese nationals, sometime near 9pm for running the illegal VoIP business.
Nayak Subadar Abu Reza Mustafa Kamal of Rab 1 filed a case against the arrestees under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act.
