Indictment of Adilur, Nasir deferred 2nd time

Update : 18 Dec 2013, 06:58 PM

The Dhaka’s Cyber Crime Tribunal yesterday deferred the indictment hearing of human rights organisation Odhikar officials until December 28 in the case filed for distorting facts about the eviction drive against Hefazat-e-Islam in Motijheel.

Judge AKM Shamsul Alam passed the order as Odhikar Director AKM Nasiruddin Elan could not be produced before the court because of his illness. Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan, however, was present.

On November 28, the tribunal deferred the hearing until yesterday.

Adilur was freed on bail on October 11 while Elan secured bail on November 24. Elan surrendered before the tribunal on November 6.

The DB police pressed charges against the duo on September 4 after completing a probe into the claim of the human rights body that 61 people had been killed in the law enforcers’ crackdown in Motijheel in the early hours of May 6.

They were charged under the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006 and the Penal Code. The tribunal took the charges into cognisance on September 11.

The DB submitted the charges after investigating the General Diary at Shapla Chattar on May 5.
