Attackers on Justice Sinha’s house sent to jail

Update : 15 Dec 2013, 07:00 PM

The four people arrested in connection with the arson attack on Supreme Court Justice SK Sinha’s Kamalganj residence in Moulvibazar were sent to jail yesterday after interrogation.

Kamalganj police station’s Officer-in-Charge Nihar Ranjan Nath said they had produced the four before court after a three-day remand to question on the attack occurred early Thursday.

They are Abu Taleb, president of Kamalganj Sramik Kalyan Federation, Jamaat’s workers’ wing; Saifur Rahman, president of upazila unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing front of Jamaat; Kamruzzaman and Fakhrul Islam. Police said political leanings of Kamruzzaman and Fakhrul could not be determined yet.

The OC refrained from making any comments on the outcomes of interrogation.

Our Sylhet correspondent reported after the attack that some unidentified Jamaat-Shibir activists had set alight the ancestral home of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, better known as SK Sinha, at Tilakpur in Kamalganj.

Justice Sinha is one of the five-member Appellate Division bench that awarded death sentence to executed Jamaat leader and convicted war criminal Abdul Quader Molla.

Nine Jamaat activists on three motorbikes were seen riding through Monipuri-inhabited Kamalganj locality at the time of Fazr prayers on that day chanting slogans “Naraye Takbir, Allahu Akbar,” our correspondent said.

The attack came just a day after the murder of a prosecution witness in the case against Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
