Another confidential meeting of concerned high officials was held at Law Advisor Shafiq Ahmed’s secretariat office on Tuesday, regarding the procedure for the execution of war crimes convict and Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla’s verdict.

Law Adviser Shafiq Ahmed, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, State Minister for Law Kamrul Islam, Home Secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed, Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sk Md Zahirul Haque, Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmud Khandker, Inspector General of Prison Mainuddin Khandakar, Attorney General Mahbube Alam, Additional Attorney General MK Rahman and Registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal AKM Nasir Uddin Mahmud attended the follow up meeting.

The two-hour long meeting began at 1:15pm. It was a follow up to the last meeting held on Monday at the same venue, a ministry source said.

After the meeting, none of the high officials agreed to speak to the media. However, State Minister for Law Kamrul Islam said he would brief the press at 7:30pm at his official resident at Minto Road.

Earlier on Monday, Inspector General (Prison) Mainuddin Khandakar briefed journalists immediately after the first meet. He said: “We have discussed all the issues including Molla’s probable mercy petition and controlling the law and order situation during the execution of the verdict.”

The meeting has given some instruction to the home ministry to tighten the security measures across the country, he further informed.

When asked about fixation of the probable date of execution, he refused to disclose the strategy and decisions that were taken in the meeting.

A source from the law ministry said the meeting had also touched on the information provided by the intelligence agencies.

The intelligence agencies reported that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir might conduct consequential subversive activities across the country during the execution of Molla.
