Update : 25 Nov 2013, 12:06 PM

The High Court stayed the lower court remand order for Barrister AKM Fakrul Islam effective immediately and sent him to jail.

Bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam delivered the order on Monday afternoon in response to a petition.

The investigation officer can interrogate Barrister Fakhrul in jail if necessary, the order added.

Mahbubuddin Khokon filed a petition with the High Court seeking a halt to the remand petition, Monday.

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed barrister AKM Fakrul Islam on a four-day remand in connection with the leak of a verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal.

Fakhrul - the lawyer for war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhury - was arrested at his office in the capital’s Kakrail on November 20. The following day, another court ordered him to jail after rejecting a bail plea.

Fakhrul was charged under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006 on November 21.
