SQC lawyer Fakhrul on 4-day remand

Update : 24 Nov 2013, 07:19 PM

A Dhaka court on Sunday placed barrister AKM Fakrul Islam on a four-day remand in connection with the leaking of a verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Emdadul Haque passed the order after Investigating Officer Md Habil Hossain, also a DB inspector, produced Fakrul before the court seeking a seven-day remand for his interrogation.

Fakhrul’s junior lawyer Mehedi Hasan, who allegedly played the key role in the leakage, remains on the run. His barrister, Aminul Haque, filed a bail petition with a remand rejection petition.

The accused requested the court to allow police to question him at jail gate. But the court rejected his appeal.

Fakrul - the lawyer for war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhury - was arrested at his office in the capital’s Kakrail area on November 20. The following day, another court ordered him to jail after rejecting a bail plea.

Fakrul was charged under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006 on November 21.
