A Dhaka court on Sunday partly recorded the prosecution side’s argument in connection with the Major General Abul Manzoor murder case.
Dhaka First Additional District and Sessions’ Judge Hosne Ara Akter also set January 22 for hearing further argument from the prosecution side. The court also expressed dissatisfaction at arguments placed by Public Prosecutor Ahaduzzaman Khan Rochi, and wondered why the lawyer did not have the minimum preparation for the argument session.
The main accused of the case former president HM Ershad, Major (retd) Emdadul Islam and Lt Col (retd) Mostafa Kamal Uddin Bhuyain were present before the court during the argument.
Earlier on November 20, Judge Hosne Ara Akter recorded the argument of the defence side. The case is being held in a special court at Nazimuddin Road, adjacent to Dhaka Central Jail.
General Manzoor was killed in 1981 after the assassination of BNP founder and military leader Ziaur Rahman; the murder case was filed in 1995; and the charge sheet was submitted in court the same year.
The other accused in the case were Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Mostafa Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Shams, and Major General (retd) Adbul Latif. According to the trial documents, 28 out of 49 witnesses, including investigation officer Abdul Kahar Akand, testified before the court.
The court had previously granted bail to all of the accused.
