Bangladesh Labour Party president held in Ctg

Six people including president of Chittagong city unit of the Bangladesh Labour Party, an associate organisation of BNP-led 18-party alliance, were arrested in Chittagong on Sunday. They were held on charges of planning to carry out subversive activities across the port city.

Alauddin Ali, 40, president of BLP Chittagong unit and joint convener of the alliance's city unit, was picked up along with five of his accomplices in Chandranagar Residential Area around 3am.

Sairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bayezid police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that acting on a tip-off, they held the six from a residence in that area.

He claimed that the arrestees had gathered to plan subversive activities.
