HC rejects SQC counsel’s bail plea

Update : 07 Oct 2013, 03:22 PM

The High Court bench on Monday refused to give anticipatory bail to Salauddin Quader Chowdhury’s counsel AKM Fakhrul Islam in the case of leaking the verdict of the war crimes tribunal.

The bench, comprised of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Habibul Gani, rejected the bail plea, and said the matter could be moved to another HC bench.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam opposed the bail petition, which was pleaded by Khandker Mahbub Hossain.

Anticipatory bail is sought when someone believes that he may be arrested in a case.

Khandker Mahbub said Fakhrul was in apprehension of arrest and harassment in the case that was registered on Friday, accusing his clerk Mehedi Hassan, the tribunal cleaner Noyan Ali and office assistant Farukh and other unknown persons of stealing parts of the draft verdict against Salauddin Quader.

On Friday, the Detective Branch of Police arrested two staffers of the war crimes tribunal in connection with the leak of draft verdict in the case against Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
