The government will provide people above 60 the facility to travel at reduced rates in different vehicles, State Minister for Social Welfare Promod Mankin told parliament on Thursday.
Replying to a question from Awami League MP AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud, he said the government had finalised a national policy on senior citizens.
“If it comes into effect, people over 60 years will be able to travel by bus and train for half the fare,” Mankin said.
“Gradually, such facilities would be offered for travel by air,” he said.
Social welfare ministry officials said the government had initiated the process in 2005-06 to declare people above 60 years as senior citizens, but the issue was yet to be settled.
