OC, SI among 9 sued for ‘torturing’ lawyer

A case was filed against nine people on Thursday, including the officer-in-charge and the sub-inspector of the capital’s Mirpur Police Station, for their alleged torture on a lawyer to grab his land at Mirpur’s Borobagh.

The victim, advocate Sheikh Abdul Wahid, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.

Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque held a hearing and ordered a judicial inquiry into the case, reports UNB.

According to the case statement, lawyer Sheikh Abdul Wahid was beaten up at the house of a retired police officer Abul Latif at Borobagh on September 2, in an attempt to grab Wahid’s four decimals of land.

It said the accused people, including the OC of Mirpur police station Salauddin and SI Chhanwar Hossain, were behind the alleged torture.

During the reported ordeal, Latif also pressed a pistol at Wahid’s head and forced him to give an undertaking.
