Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said there had been no opportunity to review the petition against the Supreme Court verdict that sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Molla to death.
In a post-verdict reaction, the minister told journalists, at his office, that the guilty party could only appeal to the president to spare his life.
However, the minister said an individual fuilty of such crimes has never been known to be spared in human history.
“This verdict is a reflection of the people’s demand and justice. The verdict will work as a milestone in protecting the liberty of justice division,” Shafique said.
When asked about the implementation of the verdict, the minister said a time had not been set for it but hoped it would be carried out soon.
