After living almost two years in captivity in India, 45 Bangladeshi nationals returned home as the Indian police handed them over to Bangladeshi authorities at Benapole check post on Monday.
Officer-in-Charge of Police Immigration at Benapole check post Kamruzzaman said the Bangladeshis, mostly women, were arrested back in 2010 for crossing the border illegally. They fell in human traffickers’ traps, police said.
Three months after their arrests, Indian NGO Rescue Foundation and Bangladesh’s Rights Jessore and National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA) worked with the two governments for their return.
