ICT: Charge framing against Mir Kashem on Aug 29

The International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday fixed August 29 for giving order on framing of charges against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali in connection with cases filed for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

The tribunal accepted the formal charges against Mir Kashem on May 26.

Kashem is facing 14 charges, including looting, arson and abduction, killing of Bangalees and torturing of at least 27 people in Chittagong during the war.

According to prosecution, Kashem was an influential commander of the Chittagong unit of the militia group al-Badr, widely held responsible for the killing of intellectuals.

The investigation agency began its probe into the alleged war crimes of Quasem on July 26, 2010, and submitted its report to the prosecution on May 6, 2013.

Kashem, who is also the chairman of Diganta Media Corporation, was arrested from the office of the vernacular daily Naya Diganta in the capital’s Motijheel in on June 17 last year.
