Police on Sunday afternoon detained 60 people from two dormitories of Chittagong Government College, suspecting that they may have been involved in subversive activities that took place in the city.
Abdullah Hel Baki, deputy commissioner (DC) of south zone of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said police had received information that some miscreants with arms had taken shelter in two dormitories of the college – Sher-e-Bangla Hostel and Suhorawardy Hostel. They raided the hostels from 4:45pm-5:30pm and apprehended the 60 people.
The police had recovered some ‘jihadi’ books from the detainees, he added.
“Legal action will be taken after interrogating them,” the police official said.
The detainees were taken to Kotwali Police Station.
