Home Minister MK Alamgir on Sunday said Adilur Rahman Khan Shuvro was arrested for an allegation against him.
The allegation that was brought against him is being investigated. Legal action will be taken following completion of the investigation.
The minister expressed his views on the matter while exchanging Eid greetings with journalists in his office on Sunday; the first day public office has been open since the Eid-Ul-Fitr holiday.
MK Alamgir said there is no reason for non-government human rights groups to raise their voices demanding the immediate release of Shuvro, as the government has the right to take action against people who are involved in anti-state campaigns. He added that the countries that are vocal in protecting human rights also take action against such campaigns.
“It is an offense to be involved with such campaigns that damage the image of the country to the world. Hijacking the rights of others in the name of human rights is not acceptable to anybody. There is no scope to excuse such an offense. Legal actions would be taken against them who are involve in such offenses,” he added.
The minister said the people of the country celebrated their Eid peacefully this year, as the government had taken some special security measures to control terrorism and extortion.
Regarding the hartal (shutdown) of Jamaat-e-Islami, MK Alamgir said: “Calling hartal against the verdicts of court is contempt of court. It’s completely contempt of court to pressurise the court. It’s a matter of court; they will take care of it. The government has nothing to do in this regard.”
When asked about the investigation of the Sagor-Runi killing case, the minister said, “There is no dilemma on investigating the case. It is running speedily. We are investigating the matter carefully and are using modern equipment to identify the killers. However, it is taking time to identify them, as technology takes time to complete its reports.”
