A Chittagong court on Sunday cross examined the investigation officer (IO) of two cases related to the recovery of 10 trucks of arms and ammunition haul.
The court cross examined IO Mohammed Muniruzzaman, who is also an additional superintendent of police at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The metropolitan sessions’ Judge SM Majibur Rahman, also the judge of Special Tribunal 1, recorded the cross examination by the lawyers of NSI’s former Director Mohammed Shahabuddin and former Director General Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury.
On April 2, 2004, police seized 4,930 types of sophisticated firearms, 27,020 grenades, 840 rocket launchers, 300 rockets, 2,000 grenade launching tubes, 6,392 magazines and 1,140,520 bullets while they were being loaded from two engine-boats on to 10 trucks at the jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL).Ahadur Rahman, then officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli police, filed the two cases on April 3, 2004 in connection with the incident. The cases were transferred to CID after 22 days.
The CID on June 26, 2011 submitted supplementary charge sheets following further investigation into the cases on a court directive.
