Sylhet gets sessions judge’s court

A Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Court has been established in Sylhet for the first time with officials already appointed.

All activities of cases under six police stations of the metropolitan area will be dealt in this court.

Additional public prosecutor Shamsul Islam of Sylhet said the government decided to establish the court to ease the cluttering of cases.

According to sources, activities of the newly-formed will be conducted in the District’s Sessions’ Judge’s Court building. Three separate statements have been made in this regard. For this court, a joint metropolitan sessions’ judge will join today while a metropolitan sessions’ judge will join on July 20. Moreover, an additional metropolitan session judge will join within a few days.

A law ministry notification says Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha of Women and Children Repression Tribunal of Sirajganj has been appointed as the metropolitan session’s judge of Sylhet while Iftikhar Bin Aziz, joint district and metropolitan sessions’ judge of Dhaka, as the additional metropolitan sessions’ judge.

The notification was issued by the branch 4 of law and justice department on April 21 as per order of the president. Signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, the notification also mentioned about the establishment of Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Courts in Khulna and Rajshahi.

Earlier, 84 posts were created in the Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Court. As many as 28 judges and officials have been appointed.
