Update : 03 Jul 2013, 05:41 AM

Two prosecution witnesses Tuesday testified against war crimes suspect and former BNP minister Abdul Alim regarding the seizure list of documents the investigation officer collected from the Bangla Academy.

They are Md Mobarak Hossain, the acting chief librarian of Bangla Academy, and Azabuddin Miah, an assistant librarian – the 30th and 31st witnesses in the case.

Alim is indicted on 17 counts of crimes against humanity he allegedly committed in Joypurhat during the Liberation War.

After their depositions, defence counsel AHM Ahsanul Huq Hena quizzed them. Later, the International Crimes Tribunal 2, led by Justice Obaidul Hasan, adjourned the proceedings till Wednesday.

The witnesses said the investigation officer had collected many copies of different national dailies from their offices on different occasions to produce them before the tribunal as evidence against Alim.

Mobarak said: “I authenticated the photocopies of the original copies of the dailies by signing on them. Other than me, my colleagues Ejabuddin Miah and Masumul Kabir also signed them for authentication. I can identify their signatures.”

Alim was arrested on March 27, 2011, and has been on conditional bail since March 31 last year.
