Update : 22 Apr 2013, 06:04 AM

Deposition of the 28th witness of prosecution, Paritosh Palit, against war crimes accused Salauddin Quader Chowdhury has been completed Monday morning.

The defence lawyer Ahsanul Haq questioned him in the International Crimes Tribunal-1.

The defence counsel Sunday cross-examined prosecution witness Dr AKM Shafiullah, who gave deposition against SQ Chowdhury as the 27th witness and adjourned the hearing on the deposition of the 28th witness until Monday.

A son of the then Muslim League leader Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, SQ Chowdhury is charged with a number of crimes, including masterminding the 1971 killing of Nutan Chandra Singh, a reputed philanthropist and industrialist in Chittagong, by instigating and leading the Pakistani army to Singh’s house.

The three-judge panel of ICT-1 was set up to try charges of crimes committed against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. The court indicted the six-time Chittagong lawmaker on 23 counts.

Prosecution witnesses began giving testimony on May 14 this year, and 21 have previously done so. Several noted that Salauddin ran a torture cell during the war.

The police arrested Salauddin on the eve of victory day celebrations in 2010.
