The government has issued a series of rules and regulations for political parties over using posters, leaflets and handbills in conducting election campaign over the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30.
According to an official handout issued on Thursday, the major rules and regulations in line with the Section 7 of the ‘Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in the Parliamentary Election 2008′ include: no candidate or any person on their behalf will be allowed to stick or hang posters, leaflets and handbills on walls, trees, fences, pillars of electricity and telephone lines and transport such as buses, trucks and ships.
The candidates will also not be allowed to stick their posters, leaflets and handbills on top of their rival candidates’ posters and distort or damage rivals’ posters.
The posters for election campaign must be black and white and size of the poster must be no more than 60 centimeter by 45 centimeter and a banner’s size must be no more than 3 meter by 1 meter.
As per section 18 of the code of conduct, if any candidate or a person on their behalf violates the rules and regulations before the polls, they will be sentenced for up to six months or fined up to Tk50,000 or both.
But if any registered political party violates the rules and regulations, it will be fined up to Tk50,000.
