4 to walk gallows for killing 5-yr old child

A Chittagong court has sentenced four persons to death for killing Yasin Arafat Abir, a 5-year old child after abduction in 2012.

The condemned convicts are Idris Mia, 28, a driver of CNG auto-rickshaw, Md Faruk, 25, a driver of tempo, Md Sujon, 23, and Md Anowar, 23.

Of the convicts, Sujon is absconding. The punishment of the fugitive will be effective from the day of his surrender or arrest.

Faruk, Md Sujon and Anowar are residents of Chandpur district while Idris hailed from Moulvibazar district of Sylhet.

Judge Mohitul Haque Enam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Chittagong passed the verdict on Tuesday.

The court acquitted Rabeya Begum, wife of Idris Mia as the charge brought against her was not proved.

According to the prosecution, Yasin Arafat Abir, son of Reaz Uddin and Rina Begum, residents of the city’s Halishahar area was killed after abduction. Abir was a student of a local school Pranhori Amin Academy.

The ill-fated child used to live with his grandparents at Halishahar area. Faruk, a tenant of the house kidnapped the child with his associates for ransom on December 17, 2012.
