A Chittagong court has sentenced a man to death for killing his brother-in-law in 2013.
The convict-Md Faisal Islam Rasel, 30, resident of Swandippara area under Rangunia upazila in Chittagong district, was also fined with Tk 5,000.
Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal delivered the verdict in presence of the convict on Wednesday, said Aiyyub Khan, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal.
The PP said Faisal killed his brother-in-law (husband of his sister-in-law) Shahin stabbing with knife indiscriminately, on the fourth floor of Dew Dubai Market under Double-Mooring police station in the city on October 5, 2013, suspecting Shahin’s unethical relation with his wife.
After the incident Faisal was caught by locals while fleeing the spot at around 3pm and on that night Md Ibrahim lodged a case against Faisal, said Aiyyub.
The case was handed over to Speedy Trial Tribunal on February 3 this year and the court passed the verdict on Wednesday after recording deposition of 16 witnesses, added the PP.
