The government will take initiative to formulate the Contempt of Courts Act Law soon, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has said.
The minister said this while addressing a workshop as the chief guest in the capital on Sunday, reports BSS.
"There should be a law of contempt of courts as the existing law became old fashioned with increasing trend of the media. So, an act to this end will soon be enacted after holding talks with all the stakeholders," he said.
Law Reporters' Forum (LRF) organised the workshop for reporters at Kazi Shafiur Rahman Auditorium of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) with its President M Badi-uz-Zaman presiding.
"It is an urgent need to organise such workshops to increase professional excellence because law reporting is different from others as it is easy to make correction in other news items but impossible in court reporting," said the minister.
The media have been playing vital role to increase the image of the courts through objective reporting, he said and urged the media to continue their efforts to this end.
