Court permits DNA test of Niloy murder evidence

A Dhaka Court has granted petition filed by police seeking permission of sending the evidence of blogger Niladri Chatterjee NIloy murder to the Forensics Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for DNA test.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Emdadul Haq passed the order on Sunday after Khilgaon OC (investigation) filed petition to the court in this regard.

The evidence includes Niloy’s one tooth, his blood-stained shirt and towel, Chief Metropolitan Magistarte Court General Recording Officer (GRO) Dipak Kumar told the Dhaka Tribune.

Also known as Niloy Neel on blogging platforms and Facebook, Niladri Chatterjee was killed with machetes by four unidentified assailants at his Goran residence in Dhaka around 1:30pm Friday.

A group named Ansar Al Islam, believed to be banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team, has claimed responsibility for the murder.
