Update : 30 Jun 2015, 06:07 AM

A Dhaka court has again placed Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony on a two-day remand in a case filed over killing two people on Dhaka street.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Hoque passed the order on Tuesday, rejecting a bail petition filed by Rony.

Earlier in the day, Rony's lawyer had filed petition seeking the cancellation of the remand plea for Rony.

DB Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das, also investigation officer of the case, filed a seven-day remand petition with the CMM court on Sunday.

Later, the court fixed Tuesday for the remand hearing.

On April 13, Rony, who was in a drunken stupor, opened fire from his car indiscriminately near Dilu Road leaving two people — rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and daily Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub — injured. Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakub died on April 23.

Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case with Ramna police on April 15.

Rony’s friends Kamal Mahmud, Tiger Kamal and Md Jahangir Hossain who were with Rony on the car during the incident, gave dispositions before the court on June 17 and 18 in the case.

Driver of the Prado jeep Imran Fakir made confessional statement on June 1. Rony was arrested based on his information.

According to witness statements, Rony had fired four to five shots at people when his vehicle got stuck in a tailback at New Eskaton around 1:45am, on the eve of Pohela Boishakh.
