The members of Detective Branch of Police have arrested the ex-husband of a female police constable, who was allegedly gang-raped, for his involvement in the crime from Kolatoli beach of Cox's Bazar.
Kalimur Rahman, an ASI of the Special Security and Protection Battalion, was picked up by a special DB team on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the arrest, DB Deputy Commissioner (East) Mahbub Alam said: “The detectives have already left Cox's Bazar for Dhaka with the arrestee.
“Acting on a tip-off, a special team of DB police conducted a drive and arrested the accused police official from Kolatoli beach.”
Earlier in the day, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police Monirul Islam said police have traced the location of the accused.
The forensic test report, released on Tuesday, suggested the female constable of Turag police has been raped.
However, the tests do not give conclusive results as to whether it was a gang rape.
From tests conducted on the victim after she had reported the rape, the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College found injury marks on her body, suggesting she might have been tortured for around 96 hours.
The woman was allegedly gang-raped by her ex-husband and three others between June 10 and June 13. She managed to flee and arrived at the One-Stop Crisis Centre on June 13.
