A Dhaka court rejected both the bail and remand prayers for BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases of arson attack, vandalism and obstructing police from performing duties.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar Datta passed the order on Wednesday when Shafiqul Islam and Morshed Alam, sub-inspectors at Paltan police station who is the cases' investigation officers, produced him before the court.
The investigation officers had submitted the petition on Tuesday for 30-day remand to interrogate Fakhrul.
The court said the prosecution could interrogate Fakhrul at jail gate within May 23 if they needed to.
Meanwhile, defence counsel Md Masud Ahmed Talukder filed a petition before the court seeking bail for Fakhrul, but the court rejected it after hearing.
On Tuesday, Fakhrul was shown arrested in three arson cases filed with Paltan police station in connection with vandalism of vehicles in the capital in January.
According to sources at the court, one of the three cases was filed by police on January 5 against Fakhrul and 28 others for vandalising and torching a bus in front of Bangabandhu Hawkers Market in Gulistan, Dhaka.
The second case was filed against Fakhrul and 49 other leaders and activists of the BNP for setting fire to a police motorbike in Fakirapool area on January 5.
Another case was filed against Fakhrul and 33 others for torching a BRTC bus at Purana Paltan area on January 6.
On January 6, police arrested Fakhrul in front of the National Press Club in the capital.
The BNP leader has been made accused in 87 cases so far.
