Update : 20 May 2015, 04:59 AM

A Dhaka court has rejected the bail and remand petitions of BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three arson cases filed with Paltan police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar Dutta passed the order on Wednesday morning.

The court said the prosecution can interrogate Fakhrul at the jail gate within May 23 if they need to.

On Tuesday, Fakhrul was shown arrested in three arson cases filed with Paltan police station in connection with attacks on vehicles in the capital in January.

The three investigation officers of the cases also submitted petitions, seeking a total 30-day remand to interrogate Fakhrul, while his defence lawyer filed a bail petition for the BNP leader.

According to court sources, one of the three cases was filed by police on January 5 against Fakhrul and 28 others for vandalising and torching a bus in front of Bangabandhu Hawkers Market in the Gulistan area of the capital.

The second case was filed against Fakhrul and 49 other leaders and activists of BNP on charges of setting fire to a police motorbike in the Fakirapool area on January 5.

Another case was filed against Mirza Fakhrul and 33 others for torching a BRTC bus at the Purana Paltan area on January 6.
