A Joypurhat court has handed down the death penalty to four people for killing a Swechchhasebak League leader in 2005.
Additional District Session Judge Mizanur Rahman gave the verdict around 10:30am Tuesday.
The convicts are Shafin Hossain, Taslim Uddin, Haider Ali and Farhad Hossain.
The then district Swechchhasebak League Vice-President Shirajul Islam was hacked to death at the Tegor Bisha area of the district on November 30, 2005.
Later, Shirajul's father Mujibur Rahman filed a case accusing 13 people for the murder.
Of the 13 accused, three of them died in crossfire while another was killed by criminals. However, the other five were discharged of the charge as they were proved innocent.
