Nurses at Mitford Hospital have given an ultimatum of staging countrywide strikes if the registration of the intern doctor who assaulted a nurse is not cancelled within Thursday.
Senior Assistant Secretary of Ministry of Health, Lutfor Rahman sat with the nurses’ representatives on Sunday morning.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Diploma Nurses’ Association (BDNA) Mitford Chapter, Mahmuda Parvin said they sat with a senior official of the health ministry. The official promised to take drastic measures against their complaints.
"We have decided to withhold our work abstention till Thursday. We will go for indefinite strike throughout the nation from Saturday if our demand is not fulfilled," she added.
Earlier on Saturday, an intern doctor, Rafiqul Islam Sujon allegedly assaulted a senior nurse Bakul Rani Das physically.
Nurses Movement Committee at Mitford Hospital on Saturday gave a three-day ultimatum to the hospital authorities demanding cancellation of Sujon’s registration, bringing him to book and taking departmental action against him.
The authorities of Mitford Hospital suspended Rafiqul Islam Sujon following the assault.
A three-member committee led by child department head Lutful Kabir was formed to investigate the incident.
