Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,048 as two die in 24 hours

The new suspected death was reported each in Dhaka and Chittagong districts

Two more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Friday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,048.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified both of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 948, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 100, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The two new suspected fatalities were reported across Dhaka and Chittagong divisions, with one death each recorded in Dhaka district and Chittagong district.

A total of 1,245 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Friday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 177,725.

During the same period, 52 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 20,395.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 156,718 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 150,633 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
