Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,019 as seven die in 24 hours

Five of the seven new suspected deaths were reported in Dhaka

Seven more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Saturday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,019.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all seven of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 919, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 100, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the seven new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with five deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 816 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Saturday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 170,638.

During the same period, 39 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 20,006.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 150,202 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 144,485 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS data.
